Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School is in the rural village of Plaistow. We take pupils from the age of 4 in our Reception class to age 11 in year 6.
The school was built in 1869, extended in 2003, 2007 and in 2009. We have seven classrooms (one per year group), two special needs/group rooms, a hall used for assemblies and PE lessons and a fantastic new library.
We have made huge improvements to our outdoor areas since 2004. There is an asphalt play area and an extra, fenced, outdoor play area for children in the Reception class plus a covered outside area for the Year 1 class.
We acquired an excellent new sports field and environmental area in 2005. Thanks to a £10,000 grant in 2006 from the National Lottery Awards for All scheme, plus smaller grants from Gatwick Airport Community Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation, pupils enjoy a wide choice of playground activities including a large adventure trail, traversing wall and assorted games, so they have plenty to occupy then during break times.
With the help of a huge donation from our PTA (PAKSA), in 2017 we created a vibrant new library with spaces for children to work as a class as well as in smaller groups. We have brand new books for all the children to enjoy and are encouraging them to use the space at every opportunity.
There are a wide range of school clubs offered outside the normal curriculum time. We have a school council made up of members of all classes, which meets regularly. Our energetic school association arrange various fundraising events to support the school. We are fortunate to have a large number of parent volunteers at the school, who come in to read with pupils, help in the classroom, assist on school trips, with school plays etc. All our volunteers have a Disbarring System (DBS) check.
We welcome visits from prospective parents during the working day. Visiting us at this time allows you to meet both staff and children to see first-hand what the school has to offer your child. Please contact the school office if you wish to arrange an appointment.
