Plaistow and Kirford Primary School - Clean Air Campaign
We are planning to deploy a series of air filtration (purifiers) devices in the school in 2022 to improve air quality and well-being for students and staff.
Their implementation will complement the existing ventilation and CO2 monitoring measures in place, however they will provide enduring benefit around improved air quality, beyond the current pandemic.
How can I help?? We are aiming to raise £1,500 to ensure each class has an air purifier device in their classroom - each unit costs between £250 and £425. We would really appreciate any donation to help us reach our target. Click on the ‘DONATE NOW’ button above to go to our ‘store’ on the school website. thnaks for any contribution you can make!!!
Benefits are backed by science and research - There is increasing scientific(1) and anecdotal evidence to support the use of air purifiers(2) along with other measures such as ventilation and CO2 monitors to improve air quality in a classroom setting, not just to help minimise the spread of Covid-19 and other bacteria/viruses, but to improve the welfare of children and staff (for example those with allergies such as hay fever) and increase their ability to concentrate in class.
Supported by Education Leaders - Education leaders from the NAHT(3), said it had been calling for more ventilation measures for months. This is also echoed by the NEU(4) who are calling for education leaders to “urgently invest in air filtration devices”.
Acknowledged benefits by the DfE - In response to the increasing evidence, the DfE have recently created a marketplace supplying air purifiers for schools(5)
