Hello Plaistow and Kirdford School, we have finally hatched! We are very excited to meet everyone and we know that the children are very excited to meet us! There are six of use and we are already keen to get out and explore the world. We are living in a smaller run, at the front of the chicken pen. Please pop by to say hello.
The chickens have been enjoying the warmer weather over Easter. This week we have discovered that one of the chickens, known as Zebra, has started sitting on the eggs. We are hoping that she will continue to sit on the 12 eggs and they will hatch. If the eggs do hatch, we will have some chicks before half term.
The School Hall was full of song on Friday evening when many of our children returned to school for the first movie night for over 2 years and what a movie it was - Sing-a-long-Encanto

On Wednesday 23rd March our Year 5&6 football and hockey team attended a This Girl Can event at The Weald. The afternoon was focused on promoting girls and their skills in sport. Both teams played brilliantly and demonstrated good skills. They worked fantastically as a team and were not only supportive of each other but also of other schools. Both teams achieved second place. Congratulations to all the players, we are really proud of you.
On Wednesday 16th March, the Year 5 football team took part in a tournament at The Weald. The played really well, winning their first two matches. It was lovely to see all the children demonstrating teamwork and good sportsmanship skills. They finished 4th out of 7 teams. Congratulations to all the players.
Cross country club love a bit of mud but this week it was extra muddy! Not even Miss Hall could avoid it!
Today we held our first Ground’s Day at school for over 2 years. All our children got involved with helping to tidy our grounds and plant bulbs and plants for the Spring. A massive thank you to Mrs Jesse and her amazing team of parent volunteers who have worked tirelessly in our Environmental Area and also to another of our families who have very donated the use of a skip. We can’t wait to see our Environmental area in full use again this Spring.
Tuesday 1st March was a very special day for us all at Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School. It was our first day back at school after Half Term and for the first time since 20th March 2020, our whole school were finally able to come together in the school hall for assembly. This was also the first time our Robin and Squirrel Classes had ever attended a full school assembly in the hall and we were really proud of how settled they were. Not only that, but Mr King told us all about Shrove Tuesday and Lent and then cooked some pancakes!
Today we had our final school assembly where we said thank you and farewell to Mrs Harrison. Mrs Harrison has worked at Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School for 11 years and we are all really going to miss her. In her time at Plaistow and Kirdford Primary school she has helped so many children and we thank her for all her dedication. We wish her well with at her new school, where we know she will be brilliant.
It was a very exciting start to our last day of term today. Not only did Father Christmas greet all our children and families outside school this morning but it was also snowing!

Father Christmas visited all our KS 2 children at their playground doors to give them a small gift before coming inside the school building where our Reception and KS 1 children were waiting quietly in the hall. Each child received a small gift from Father Christmas.

Today, our children were visited by a very special visitor. Father Christmas took some time out from his extremely busy schedule to come and visit all our children. Rudolf was really good and stayed on the school roof while Father Christmas visited every class together with his very helpful Elf!
Today, our children were able the enjoy their Christmas Lunch with their class in the School Hall. We had 4 sittings to ensure we were Covid secure. All the children were able to pull a cracker with their friends - our thanks to PAKSA for providing the Christmas Crackers - there were lots of very silly jokes inside!
We were also raising money for Save the Children with our Christmas Jumper Day - thank you to all our families for their very kind donations.
This morning we had our school assembly all together in person - it has been quite a while! This took place outside in the wonderful fresh air and within our bubbles. It was so wonderful to celebrate our students of the week all together again!
Well done to everyone who joined in the challenge of creating a scene from a book! It was great to see all the fantastic scenes that had been created.

If you are making pancakes during half term, the most important things to remember is these:
Be safe! You should not be using a cooker without the help of a grown up in your home!

Traditionally at Christmas time the staff team do something a bit silly and festive in our final assembly for the children. We missed being able to do it in assembly but we had a great time making this instead!
