Data Retention Policy

The Data Protection Act 2018 adopts the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principle of ‘storage limitation’, which requires that personal data should be kept for no longer than is necessary for the purpose for which the data are processed.

The legislation does not impose specific limits or prescriptions on periods of retention for any data. It is important to put in place policies, as well as technical and organisational measures, to adequately prove (through evidence) that you adhere to, and comply with the ‘storage limitation’ principle.
