Monday 20th April

Welcome back Woodpeckers!

I hope you have had a really lovely Easter break and have definitely eaten lots of chocolate! It has been lovely to have so much sun and I hope you have got out in the garden and had some lovely walks. My children have certainly been in the garden more than inside most of the time and we’ve all been enjoying Easter eggs.

Miss Moss-Silverson and I will be putting work up again for you now and we hope you enjoy having a go. If you are finding it too tricky then please have a look at the year 2 blog and have a go at the work Miss Gordon has set and if you think you fancy a bigger challenge you can also have a try at the work year 4 are doing from Mr Ind on their blog.

English

Spelling:

As you are used to doing at school, we will be focusing on a group of spellings a week.

It would be really useful for you to practise these spellings as you would if we were at school.

Monday: Introduction to spellings

Tuesday: Look at the meaning of the words in a dictionary

Wednesday: Look, Cover, Write, Check

Thursday: Spelling test

This week we are looking at the prefix ‘anti-’. The prefix goes at the start of the root word and changes the meaning. There are two sets of spellings, one slightly trickier than the other. Please choose the list that will challenge you. If you want to add some of your own ‘anti-’ words that is fine too. I know some of you are used to doing that already, but please make sure they are spelled correctly before you learn them!

SPaG:

Today, we will be looking at First, Second and Third person by using certain pronouns.

We use pronouns all the time, when talking and writing!

Have a look at the reminder explaining how we use pronouns when choosing the correct words to show ownership.

Maths:

We have been looking at the perimeter of different shapes as part of our work on measurement.

The perimeter is the distance around the outside of a complete 2D shape.

Find different shapes around your home and measure the length of each side. Can you add them up to find the perimeter?

Topic:

Our new topic this half term is ‘Tribal Tales’ and we will be looking at the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

The first time period we are going to be looking at is the Stone Age.

As a way of getting to know the time period we are going to be looking at Skara Brae. This is a Stone Age settlement in Scotland and we can learn a lot about the time period by studying it.

Please read the information on Skara Brae and then complete the questions about it.

If you want to investigate further, can you research Skara Brae yourself and find out some more interesting facts?
